Miami--recreation -- Virginia Key BeachAlright. . . .we’ll put aside the beaches for now; we all know Miami is famous for its luxurious beaches and beautiful people and you don’t really need us to be able to imagine it. However, we do plan to provide you with an idea of other forms of recreation that exist here. For instance, there are a number of spectator sports that take place year-round, including professional team sports, individual competitions and other exciting events that involve gambling as well, if you're interested. Greater Miami and the Beaches is home to pro football, basketball and baseball as well as many major golf and tennis events. Also, don’t forget the renowned University of Miami Hurricanes, one of the strongest athletic universities in the country.

Miami recreation - Key BiscayneWant to participate in the sports action? Miami has a great selection of sporting facilities around town, including parks, golf courses, tennis courts, marinas, spas, swimming pools and more. Several recreation departments and centers attend to a wide array of indoor and outdoor sporting facilities and have plenty of information available for those who wish to investigate Miami recreation a little further. Among such departments are: City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department (305/673-7725 or 305/673-7730) and City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department (305/416-1308 or 305/419-2154).

Miami has a number of bicycling facilities, bike routes, and off-road trails for all you pedal pushers. Many establishments offer visitors equipment, group rides, maps, off-road guidance, and more.

Of course, the land activities here are great, but when in Miami one must venture to the sea to gain a complete Tropical experience. An excursion on or under the water is sure to be a highlight for any visitor. And when you’re ready to take to the seas, you can choose from boating, fishing, charters, cruises, snorkeling, and scuba diving, among others.

With its mélange of big city sophistication, quaint Caribbean charms, Latin tempos, warm waters and world-famous beaches, recreation in Miami can be a fantastic experience. Who was it that sung, “I’m going to Miami!”?
